Get Ready for Church!

Over the coming weeks I’d love to encourage everyone to start bringing a Bible with you to church. Whether it’s a well-worn paperback, a chunky study Bible or brand spanking new one, having the Scriptures open in front of you can make a real difference to how we engage with God’s Word together.

To help us, for a season we’re not going to show the main Bible reading on the screens in church. You can now follow the reading in your own Bible and should you forget it, there are Bibles to use in church.

Here are a few reasons why bringing our Bible’s to church can help us grow in our faith:

1. It helps us follow the passage more closely.

When we read the Bible together, being able to see the words yourself helps you stay connected with the text and notice things you might otherwise miss.

2. It encourages deeper learning.

You may want to underline a verse, make a note, or mark something that God particularly speaks to you through.

3. It helps us become people of the Word.

As disciples of Jesus, we want Scripture to shape our lives. Bringing a Bible is a simple habit that helps place God’s Word at the centre of our worship.

4. It models faith to others.

When children, young people, and those exploring faith see us opening the Bible together, it shows that God’s Word matters to us.

5. It helps you return to the passage during the week.

If you’ve marked the passage we preached from, it’s easy to revisit it later in the week and allow it to continue speaking into your life.

So next Sunday, why not pop a Bible in your bag or under your arm before you leave home? Let’s grow together as a church that listens carefully to God’s Word and allows it to shape our lives.

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

With every blessing,

Gareth
