Bible Verse: Proverbs 29:18
Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained. But happy is he who keeps the law.
Thought:
Today we are praying for vision – specifically God’s plan for St Luke’s.
Vision is the most precise meaning of the word in Proverbs 29:18. Most modern Bible translations helpfully explain its meaning by translating it as something such as ‘revelation’ or ‘word from the Lord’. Our daily use of the word ‘vision’ probably misses this – we might focus on the vision statement of a business or the vision we have for our own lives. But in the Old Testament every time the word is used (I’ve checked!) it refers to some kind of divine vision or revelation of God’s plan. This is the kind of vision we desire for St Luke’s – not our own self-made, self-sized vision but God-revealed, God-sized vision! It is interesting also to note that here in Proverbs, this kind of vision is partnered with obedience to what God says.
For Prayer:
- For God to speak clearly to us as a church; to reveal HIS vision for HIS church.
- For us as a church as we regularly review our vision statement; that we might be certain of
God’s priorities for this coming season. - For us as individuals to hold lightly our own hopes and desires for St. Luke’s and know how we
are to contribute to God’s vision for the church. - For us all to be emboldened by the Holy Spirit to live faithfully in obedience to all that God
says.
If as you listen to God, he gives you a word or scripture that you sense is for us as a church
please email it to vision@stlukesmaidstone.church
